Project : Echoes – 09.24.10
I am a fan of circular patterns, so I went literal this time. Circular patterns are tough because I love doing freehand work with my patterns; but it is simply impossible to free-hand a perfect circle. So I gave myself some guidelines with the antique compass I picked up at a junk shop in the country just west of us (on our way to our son’s college). The guidelines are completed in pencil and then I complete all the ink work free-hand.
It was fun wrapping my brain around the geometry of making this one work! (see there…artists are smart too!!)
I really love the name of this fan…my guess is Vornado is a combination of “vortex” and “tornado”…
I did this one while watching “Cheers” reruns!…Kelly and Woodie’s wedding episode – one of the best ever!  I am excited about this drawing because the final product looks like a camera shutter! How appropriate!
Oh, yeah, one more thing…I will be submitting this pattern for licensing to a company that manufacturers lighting fixtures; this will be a lamp shade pattern! If all goes well, I should be adding an “ANNOUNCEMENTS” category to my blog posts!
Wish me luck…
